Your code can check whether the window was blocked by testing the return value. If it’s null, the window was blocked. How each browser controls pop ups differs, but each will give you some noticeable clue that a pop up has been blocked, as well as give web page readers an option to unblock it.

If no option string is given in Example 9-1, the newly opened window will either in a tab, which is the default behavior for most browsers, or resemble the parent window. When certain options are specified, others—such as toolbar, location, and menubar—may be off by default, or may be dependent on the browser you’re using. Other options exist when opening a window, but many violate accessibility standards. An example of this is fullscreen. This option opens a browser to fill the screen, an option which you should use with caution.

Once you have a window object, you can adjust it from the parent window or have a window adjust itself. I’ll cover the methods for managing window modification next.
